Laser Vaginal Tightening® (LVT ®)

Vaginal Rejuvenation is an umbrella term that covers all the changes done to vaginal anatomy including vaginal tightening. It can be either internal or external or both. With age and vaginal child birth, the vagina and the muscles around it become weaker (not totally weak) than before.

Some women accept and some want to reverse those changes for various reasons. Laser Vaginal Tightening (Vaginal rejuvenation) is the procedure that helps them regain the firmness of their vagina. Vaginal rejuvenation also helps in avoiding incontinence, vaginal dryness and more problems.

Before performing any such cosmetic procedure, it is important for a gynecologist to inquire the reasons why the woman/patient wants to go for the procedure. A good (cosmetic) gynecologist always follows procedure as a part of her ethical treatment process. The patient will also be informed that, any cosmetic procedure is NOT going to take her vagina to the state when she was 16 years old. Some changes cannot be completely un-done; however, appreciable changes can be done to a good extent using advanced treatment procedures.

What is Vaginal Rejuvenation?

Vaginal rejuvenation includes any procedure done to change the anatomy of the vagina.  This procedure is typically used to correct problems that occur due to age or vaginal birth including:

  1. Lack of tightness of the vagina – called Laxity. Vaginal tightening can be achieved through surgical or non surgical/laser procedures.
  2. Stress Urinary Incontinence – Incontinence is a condition when urine (or even faeces / feces) leaks out involuntarily.
  3. Lack of vaginal lubrication – happens when estrogen levels fall due to age, medication or other factors.

Who opts for Laser Vaginal Tightening?

  1. Women who gave birth normally through vagina. The tightness of the vagina will be lost because the muscles in the pelvis region and those around the vagina gets stretched to a very large extent.  As the time passes, the tightness returns but not to pre-birth condition. If the woman feels that the tightness has not returned or the vagina is still lose and unable to feel orgasm, she may opt for this procedure.
  2. Aged Women – with increasing age, the estrogen levels fall. Especially for women who had their menopause. This results in dryness of the vagina and they feel inconvenience, pain when having sex.

What are the different types of advanced energy based treatments for vaginal tightening?

  1. Radio Frequency Treatment – The tissues around the vagina are heated using electromagnetic waves. These waves are similar to microwaves but the energy levels of these waves is much lesser. At Cosmetic Gynecology clinic, we employ only branded machines manufactured by Geneveve by Viveve and ThermiVa.
  2. CO2 laser treatment – The laser heats up the upper layers of the tissue. This signals the tissues that are inside to make more collagen. The production of collagen makes the skin firmer and tighter.

Other ways to tighten the vagina and the pelvic muscles include:

  1. Kegels and Pelvic Floor exercise – Not just the tissues around Vagina, if regularly done, they strengthen pelvic floor muscles which can help in preventing prolapse of other organs as well.
  2. Vaginoplasty – A surgical procedure to tighten the vagina.

What are the benefits of laser treatment for vaginal tightening?

Benefits of Laser treatment for Vaginal rejuvenation include:

  1. Minimal blood loss
  2. Less pain
  3. Quick recovery and
  4. Less chances of infection.

This is a daycare procedure. In rare circumstances (typically with untrained doctors), vaginal or vulvar scarring may happen.

How long a woman has to wait to have sex after vaginal tightening?

3 days would be good enough time for recovery and to have sex. If there are any signs of pain, vaginal or bladder infections or bleeding, contact your specialist immediately.
